The Lehigh Concert Band has finished another fantastic season of great music and will
strike up the band again in October .
This season we added some new younger members who brought their youthful enthusiasm and musical skills to the group. We also added a concert announcer, Joanne Stein, which resulted in a much more polished performance. The audience of loyal supporters also increased as more people became aware of the outstanding community band right here in Lehigh Acres and we are hoping to keep those gains and grow even more next year.
This past year we presented 6 regular concerts, and also sent some small groups to play for Fountain Crest Retirement Residence, New Life Assembly church, the Kiwans Club of Lehigh, and First Congregational church. In November we played a Salute to the Veteran’s concert including Liberty Bell march, Freedom, The Great Escape march, American Tribute and more. Our always popular Christmas concert featured Norwegian Folk Rhapsody, A Very Merry Christmas, Festive Sounds of Hanukah, a professional brass group from Fort Myers called Brass Music Elements, and finished on selections for the Nutcracker Ballet. January concert featured both a swing Big Band and a Dixieland Band. February was a Broadway concert with Music from Mary Poppins, Gershwin, Sound of Music, West Side Story, our own Concert Brass playing some Beatles music, and more. The band always focuses on our March and April concerts and for the end of season shows we wowed the audience with performances of American River Songs, Blues Brother’s Revue, Crooner’s Serenade, ABBA, the difficult but expressive Southwest Saga, and a big finish with God Bless The USA and Stars and Stripes Forever.
The level of music the band performs and the musical ability of it’s members has increased steadily in the past few years and we aim to continue this trend in the future. Next season we will continue to perform entertaining, fun music both the musicians and the audience will enjoy. We will again salute the veterans in November with patriotic music like the Armed Forces Salute, Sons of the Brave march and Nathal Hall trilogy. For our Christmas concert we will be taking the focus to the kids with How the Grinch Stole Christmas, March of the Toys, Nightmare before Christmas, a narrated version of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas and A Canadian Brass Christmas Suite. January will be Broadway with music from Chicago, Sound of Music, Anything Goes, My Fair Lady, Evita and more. February will be the wild card for lovers with Looney Tunes, Unforgettable, Wonderful World of Disney, and Kiss Me Kate. The March and April concerts are still under wraps but involves buying the newest most entertaining music available
