This season we added some new younger members who brought their youthful enthusiasm and musical skills to the group. We also added a concert announcer, Joanne Stein, which resulted in a much more polished performance. The audience of loyal supporters also increased as more people became aware of the outstanding community band right here in Southwest Florida and we are hoping to keep those gains and grow even more next year.

This will be a pivotal year for the band with a new name, new rehearsal location and new assistant conductor. Staci Hatmaker graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Masters degree in conducting and before moving to Fort Myers was the assistant conductor of the Atlanta Wind Symphony. She is currently the Director of Music of the South Fort Myers high school and performs with the Bonita Springs concert Band. She will now bring her youthful exuberance with her performing and conducting the new Southwest Florida Concert Band.

The level of music the band performs and the musical ability of it’s members has increased steadily in the past few years and we aim to continue this trend in the future. We have selected a wide variety of entertaining music including demanding and melodic overtures, stirring marches, popular movie music, old classics and more. In November we will play a Salute to the Veteran’s concert including the Spirit of Liberty march, Nathan Hale Trilogy, Hymn of Freedom, The Blue and the Grey, Armed Forces Salute and more. Our always popular Christmas concert will be  be focused on a Florida Family Christmas. We will play How the Grinch Stole Christmas, March of the Toys, C’est Noel, Canadian Brass Christmas, feature our brass quintet and have an old fashioned audience Christmas carol singalong.

The January concert will bring music of Broadway including selections from Chicago, Anything Goes, Hello Dolly, Tribute to Irving Berlin, and some Disney. February will feature soloist selections for saxophone and trombone, some Big Band music as well as selections from the movies. The band always focuses on our March and April concerts and for the end of season shows we promise not to disappoint with the most entertaining music available
