The Lehigh Concert Band is a community band that performs in the Lehigh Acres and South West Florida area to bring music and joy to the local residents. We perorm at festivals, churches and retirements homes as a full concert band or in small groups.
It is a non-profit organization that has existed since 1979 and provides the opportunity for residents of Lehigh Acres and Lee County to join together to perform free concerts and support ceremonial occasions in its local area. The Band's musical season is from November to April and it rehearses weekly in order to present a concert at least once per month.
The current conductor, John Monachan, served 6 years with the Canadian Navy reserve band, then transferred to full time service in 1977. After attending the Canadian Forces School of Music (CFSMUSIC) in Victoria, British Columbia he was posted to the Central Band of the Canadian Forces in Ottawa, Canada. From 1990 till 1992 he was the bandmaster of the base band in Baden, Germany and served there during deployment of the Air Force for the Gulf war. That was where he met his future wife Karen Harbocian of Liberty, New York. In 1992 he returned to his position with the Central Band in the Nations capital and spent the rest of his career there, retiring in 2010. Upon retiring John and Karen decided the snowbird life was for them so they bought a house in Lehigh Acres and now call this home for the winter.
The mission of the Band is to promote the love of music and develop music appreciation through the rehearsal and performance of concert band music in the Lehigh Acres and Lee county community. Membership in the Band is open to everyone, regardless of race, age, gender, or creed, and can be as a musician or also as a patron, or friend.
If you love music like we do, we offer you the opportunity to meet interesting people and perform concerts for appreciative audiences. We are open to any concert band musician who can play at a high school or college level or above. For further information contact the President Lynne Criss at 239-949-1834 or e-mail at email@example.com. We have immediate openings for tuba and clarinet as well as other instruments. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings at 7:00 P.M. at Faith Lutheran Church in Lehigh Acres.
Patrons of the Band will be mentioned at concerts and will have recognition in the program. There are several levels of recognition for patrons to reflect the amount of support they have given to assist the Band in its ability to carry out its mission. Funding will be applied to hall rental for rehearsals and concerts, purchase of music and equipment, and ongoing administrative costs to produce programs and information for the Band.
